grinding on accelerating

been out for a drive today in defender 110 300tdi 1997 and noticed a quite loud grinding that seemed to occur while pressing accelerator, on removing the power noise vanished.I stopped for few minutes and on setting off noise gone for 1st mile then commenced again any ideas to help

Play in propshaft UJ would be my first port of call.

is it a grind or a hiss?

grind id be looking at diffs or g/box

hiss - intercooler or hoses

Good evening folks, it's me back at the helm now and I apologise for my hubby posting this in the wrong section last night ! It's him who has been 'grinding' while accelerating ;-)

We're trying to find out which type of diff we have currently on our motor, we know the rear axle was changed at some point and we believe it may be a post 2002 axle (on our 1997 vehicle), but we're not entirely sure what it is !
I'm hoping I've managed to upload some pics for you wonderful folks to identify for us !!!

Well it was a P38 that we needed, we have changed it today and we now have a wonderful Lady landy again who no longer grinds or bangs (sorry chaps !) ;-)
