Grinding diff?

Hi guys,

Got a 97 300tdi disco. Rear diff has been making a grinding noise for some time now (similar to binding discs). Started getting vibrations from 2000 rpm and above now, plus a horrible squealing noise when accelerating. I've jacked the rear wheels up individually and span them round. Noise seems to be coming form the prop part of the diff. Is it worth me disconnecting the prop shaft to eliminate everything else? Also, Its a 3 bolt 24 spline diff. Can I buy any 3 bolt 24 spline or are there different versions of that diff?!? Any advice gratefully received

I'd get someone who knows what they're listening to and looking at to have a look at it before you buy or do anything .. Mate had a duff UJ, found after he'd already replaced a diff, half-shaft, wheel bearings .. just 'cos he didn't listen and look properly ..

Put where you are in your UserCP, someone close might have a look for <cough, cuppa tea minimum> free ..
