Hi All,
I live in new caledonia and have had a disco 2 for several years. Its been the source of much pleasure and pain, and i'm here because i broke my key (dropped in saltwater) and am now *may* be getting the run around from the local dealership.

So the lock / unlock was working. I dropped my key in the drink, then the remote no longer worked. So i was driving it around without locking it and took it to a local garage to look at a different problem and asked them not to lock the car.

Sadly, one of their techs locked the car and it's been immobilized. I talked to the dealership and they are saying i need a new body control unit (YMC000310) which didn't make sense to me as all that's broken is the key, but what do i know? They of course want more than 1000 euros just for the part.

Anyway, here to figure out if i should push back or if what they're saying might be legit. They're the only place on this island with the computers to replace a key so they have a strangle-hold on the game.

My car's been out of commission for 5 months now :(

Any help would be much appreciated, and apologies if i've posted this in the wrong part of the forum!

After you dropped your key into the drink, did you do anything to resolve the problem such as removing the cover, taking the battery out and drying the innards? It may be that if you do this, the fob may be revived. Water usually cases a short which flattens the battery but if you're luck, doesn't damage any of the electronic components. Sugary fluid such as tea/coffee is the worst thing to drop an electron device into.
