Hi just joined the forum hoping to find out lots of things I didn't know about my newly purchased disco 4.
Had an original Disco and then a TD5 many years ago and before that one of the first freelanders built.
Now I'm retired and hoping to have lots of fun with my new toy (been great in the snow so far!)

Hi you lot
Just got my LR4 couple of weeks ago and loving it so far. My neighbor pops over to have a look and says "that's lovely but where's the mudflaps?". So I'm straight on eBay and bought a set quite cheap (the plastic ones). Now I don't know wether to fit them or not. The questions I have are:
1 .Will they improve the look?
2. Will I have to remove them if I want to do some off roady stuff?
3. Do they actually keep the car that much cleaner? It seems the car sort of cleans itself a bit with some decent rain.
Opinions please!

The genuine mud flaps are made from stronger more durable plastic. Aftermarket ones are always er bit cheaper. They will help to reduce the muck chucked up from the wheels. They will also reduce road spray fer the vehicles travelling behind. If yer want to know wot it will look like with they is fitted then do a web search and look at other owners pic's. At the end of the day it will still be a disco.

Defenders with very long rear mudflaps can have an issue off road when reversing as the flap can get caught between the ground and the tyre. You sometimes see them fitted with chains so that they can be pulled up and held out of the way. Never heard of a Disco having the same issue though.

Ok so fitted them and I think they look ok . They do have some flexibility in the plastic so shouldn't snap off easily. Quite fiddly to fit however. Thanks for all the advice folks.

They look as if they are made of solid plastic rather than flaps. If they are solid then presumably they are not designed to flex out of the way and will simply rip off as soon as they touch the ground. I retract my earlier opinion that mudflaps would not be an issue off road as the wheel would only have to articulate about a third of its diameter before you would be at risk of damage. Sorry, but this is a design I had not anticipated. I recommend removing them before Green Laning.
