I'm sure i read somewhere or it was mentioned in the local pub that Green Laning rights are being severely restricted from now on.

Is this true? :(

sure is, since may last year i think. thousands have closed and some people say, some of the best. because of ramblers and cyclists and the damage we do to the lanes and environment.
what they seemed to miss is that alot are only used by 4x4's or scramblers and this is the reason they stay useable. so now that no one will use them they will over grow and disappear.
some clubs are adopting routes and maintain them. its a deal struck up to let people still drive on them and means they stay well maintained

Cheers for the info, I'll make sure i use the ones near me regularly then to keep them 'open'!

if there is no sign up by the local council saying "restricted byway" or something similar then assume it is still legal to drive.

you dont mention where your based.

north somerset and exmoor have now been ruined by the NERC act. you cant really drive anywhere around them parts no more.

salisbury has also been hit pretty bad with alot of its routes closed/suspended

and lastly i was over in Wales last weekend doing mynydd y soar and the mighty strat florida. some of the other byways have been closed due to the new gas pipeline running across the length of south Wales.

thats about all i know for lanes in this neck of the woods.

hope this helps.

Based in notts.

Have they gone to the trouble of putting signs up and physically closing those lanes you mention then?

there are signs up saying they are temp closed till whatever date they decide. this allows the lanes to recover naturally without being disturbed. they will usually be re-opened during the summer months when the weather is drier and ground is harder.

this doesnt bother me though, as it means the lanes are sustainable.

what usually happens though is that zuk drivers and even to some extent bad land rover drivers along with enduro bike riders pull the signs up and launch them into the nearest hedge. which means, if you dont know their closed when you come up to them, you usually exit the other side with an irate rambler taking your number plate and looking at you in disgust.

ive tried explaining to them that the signs are being pulled down, but they chose to ignore my innocent plea's.

what can you do ey?
