Green laning in Sawtry, Peterborough

does any one know of any routes near me?
I would be greatfull of any help.

A quick peruse of OS 1:50k shows a few within just a few miles of Sawtry.

Road from Sawtry to Steeple Gidding, there's two Boats starting off the road .. there's another roughly central to the road between Winwick and Thurning .. One through Coppingford wood .. there's the Nene way near Warmongton .. a couple at Ashton and Polebrook .........

They were all found with a ten minute glance at the map. HOWEVER, it's up to you to check that they're still legal, so find their references in your local council, see the Definitive Map, and check their status first before driving them. You might be able to check them at the Wayfarer site, Glass site or many others.

I'm deliberately not giving definite map references, time for you to put some effort in.

Use OS maps 1:50k Region 6, or OS 1:25k 277

Wish I had that many to drive that close to me ...

thanks for your help, I have now looked them up and will find out from the council if they are still legal.

theres one that goes from kings dyke to whittelsey along river , easy but deep ruts, also one from peakirk to crowland very easy but quitelong , give me a shout if you want to meet up sum time im peterborough

yes mate we must meet up i nearly got stuck on me own other week, but im bizy at weekends untill mid may , have you tried tixover pay and play thats fun, last sundays of month sometimes its on more often, bet its on at easter i can have a look if u want £20 for the day, plenty of mud and help to get you out if u need it, cheers gas

tixover quarry pay and play days , april 19 , may 03, may 31, june 14 ,. burger van on site . os grid ref sk 975026. or drive along A47 towards leicester when you have passed tixover village still staying on A47 look for a track on the right with a " NOT SUITABLE FOR MOTOR VEHICLE " sign( its a byeway) drive down track turn right at end quarry is 200 mtrs on left . let me no if your goin , it is a good day.its not the track for tixover house its the next one .cheers gas

I was looking into winches, not sure what one to get?!?

get one of them hand type . (trifor) wont let you down and wont get nicked and a couple of lenghts of angle iron (for ground stakes) , big lump hammer ,goobs a good un .

trifor is the best i think, you want at least 2 ton any bigger and its a heavy lump, look e bay 2nd hand

Hi there guys, pretty chuffed to stumble accross an active thread on this after googling green lanes in Peterborough! I'm fairly new to the area, over near Newborough, and I'm also new to Landys and want to have a go at greenlaning Plus I'm doin the Mac4x4 thing next year so would be nice to learn to drive offroad prior to this!!

hi tank yes must meet up , you must try tixover quarry great to learn and fun £20 for day . also a really easy byeway is from peakirk to crowland no probs on own wi that one.think tixover on this sunday , but im up in lake district but you shiould go plenty of peeps to help

when r u 2 free for a day laning sundays best for me , but mot in 3 weeks and away this weekend so may is good for me june im bizy getting ready for glastonberry festival , aug goin to france so may and june on a sunday let me know, cheers

Hi Tankduck, my range rover should be ready soon, so we can meet up, the two greenlanes in Sawtry are closed till end of April so the timing is good. what landy have you got?

Sorry I couldn't reply last night, I drive a defender 90 200tdi 4x4Kev, needs new tyres before I take it off road as they are rubbish, I was going to suggest next Sunday though Gas depending on how busy you are before your MOT, if not May is good for me, except the first weekend when I'm biking in Wales.

Is the Peakirk to Crowland byeway the one that goes parallel to the river, and passes the horsey centre? I've been biking on that loads.

no worries mate. I wont be ready in time for that Sunday, got a bit more welding to do.
I have not been down that green lane yet so cant answer that one. but will give it a go soon.
