Dear all, I’m now getting my head around green lanning, boats, off roading whatever you want to call it. The red tape involved in getting access to these lanes is getting more and more difficult, I have just taken delivery of quite a few shiny new OS map and there is a lane clearly defined on this map as a BOAT (by way open to all traffic) however after researching this lane it was declassified in 1995 to a bridal path and subsequent bollards have been placed at the entrance. I challenged my local council who have basically slammed the door shut in my face, saying that this was classified through the local courts with no appeals from any local 4X4 groups, but my question is how the hell were we to object if were are not informed. As Grippa has already highlighted these are historical places that I want to experience. Surely there is something that can be done or a code that can be enforced so that like minded individuals can drive such paths as long as the code is adhered to. (Basically stop the dickheads from tearing up the countryside and acting like yobs). I, along with many of you, want to stick to the correct side of the law, and when we do things correctly and research the lanes, plot correct routs and spent an awful lot of time and effort, only to find that some **** in a suit has placed restrictions to stop my recreation nay historic pleasure.

And for those who are reading this thinking well I would love to go green lanning, try it it’s a fooking head ache and have respect for the people that are spending many many hours trawling the OS maps, internet and telephone conversations in order to keep these byways open to all. And when you are driving the depleting lanes we have, have some respect and do not jeopardise many many hours, days, weeks, months, and years of hard fooking work.

My rant over!
:blabla:

Do you have a grid reference for the lane in question?

Its unusual that the OS map is erroneous, since the council have a legal requirement to notify them of changes to the definitive map; and that OS maps are revised every 3 months. Even if they didn't do the change because it was the only one (there's rumours they don't do any updates unless there's at least 3 changes), with it being back in 1995 you'd expect there to have been other slight changes since then, which would have meant an update and the lane marked as a bridleway instead of byway open to all traffic.
