Got my 90!

Well I fiinally got my 90 & am still getting used to it, I previously was driving a golf so the difference is quite vast. I feel like a munchkin in a tank whilst driving but the position is great.
I wanted to ask a couple of questions to all the people out there in the hope you might be able to help.

1. Drove back from Birmingham to Manchester on wednesday & the journey was ok but a bit on the noisy side, I suppose I will get used to it but can anyone recommend a good soundproofing solution (engine noise was the main issue) Whats a GKN overdrive?

2. Hate the vinyl seats which are in the 90 at the minute, sliding all over the place & they make my back really sweaty, Can anyone recommend where I can get some decent cloth seats?

3.Which tyres will greatly improve road noise?

Volvo seat (Comfy) ive heard fit nicely into a 90 (dont quote me on that). But then you have the prob of access to the battery under passenger seat, you could try looking in magazines such as "landrover owner international" for companies who do trim such as "Exmoor". Or cheaper still...go to your local upholsterers and ask them to recover the seat in a colour/design of your choice.
Road noise can only be cut down by having Non-aggressive tyres.
Sound proofing... again i'd point you towards the magazine for companies.

I was going to try to soundproof mine but decided against it when I found out how much water got trapped under the existing matting. And if you take it off road you'll only have to take it all out to clean it. I havent got any in mine and after a day at Langdale I just pressure wash the inside to clean it.

I've had a few recommendations for seats but if your going to the scrap yard for them you are looking for ones with the thinest seat base so you don't trap your knees under the steering wheel. You will probably have to make or adapt your existing runners.

As for tyres I reckon any road tyres will do, but I reckon you'll just get used to the noise.

I agree about the seats, I'm gonna get down to the local scrappy for mine. I've had a look on various sites, but you are looking at about £150 per seat. My mate recently put Rover seats in theirs, I'm after some bucket type things to help keep me in one place while I'm offroading, nowt worse than sliding all over the gaff is there?

I just recovered the seats myself on my 110 TD5. Decent cloth, new foams and all the bits you need to do the job. Took half a day to do and gave me stiff fingers but they do look good. Kit for two front seats and headrests £180 - Exmoor Trim http://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/erol.html

As Pagan said, i just got a couple of beauties from the scrapyard, they are from a rover coupe and they fit a treat.
I got them with the runners and still have back and forth adj. height adj. lumbar adj. and tilt.
They are unmarked, very much like a recaro and cost £30 for the pair.
I have had to bolt them in so battery access means removing the seat, so make sure your battery is in good condition and well secured b4 fitting.
I passed bolts up from under the seat box and secured them with a nut, then placed the seat over the bolt and secured it. This way, you need only undo the nut to remove seat and not hold the bolt head.
If you are bigger than 5' 3" you might need a smaller wheel, very cheap from Paddocks.

Now then I thought about these. But if you think about it, if your in and out of the vehicle quite a bit, I reckon there going to be a pain in the arse (ha ha) 'Cos you've got the extra height of the seat sides to climb over.

Spot on Grunt, moreso with the raised bolsters on the side.

Fair comment about getting in and out of the vehicle, but would they not have their benefits for keeping you in a more stable driving position when offroading? I suppose it's a bit of a trade off really innit!

I reckon harnesses might be the way to go. But I imagine they could become a pain to get on and off, and grab handles for the passenger.

I likes the sound of that. I'll check out some prices, cos I intend to get replacement seats from a scrappy to keep it cheap. S'pose it depends how much the old harnesses work out at. Thanks Grunt old bean!

have a look at the seats in a rover 216 or 218 about an l or m reg, they were quite buckety i think
