Hello everyone,
I have a 1991 90 hard top tdi 200 and was wondering about the effectiveness of the tyres I have fitted. They are Goodyear G90's 750 x 16. They are excellent for sand, rocks and mud but I was wondering if they are good when the snow comes. Does anyone else have them fitted? And what do you think of them? I heard the are noisy on the tarmac and can slide in the wet but I've found them to be OK, I have had them on about a year now with no negative side effects.

Cheers

I do not profess to be an expert, but I do live in the Rhone Alps where our normal winters would be like a bad snowy UK winter. I currently run on General Grabber AT2's which from the reviews I read up on were supposed to be good in the snow. Looking at the tread pattern of your Good Year G90's I would expect them to be good in Mud and sand but not so good in snow. Snow tires seem to work best with a tighter tread. Like the AT2's or the Michlan Alphin tires. The At2's are quiet good. I had some Cooper A/T M/S which were very good in snow. I also had some BF TRAC edge which were useless. OK in a straight line but no steering. When you put a bit of a lock on they just carried on going straight. I'm quiet happy with the AT2's but next time round I would probably go with the Coopers. AT2's do work very well in the wet and are not noisy.
Above is a warning about G90's I came across once.
Hope that might be of some help.
