Going to get myself a CB and would like to hear your experiences with regards to rigs and antennas. Dont want to spend thousands but a few hundred quid for a good set-up and range isn't a problem. First of all I was thinking about opting for the thunder pole T1000 as it seamed good value but since doing some research there are a lot better rigs on the market for not much more cash.
Please consider that the set-up is to be used on a defender so the aluminium bodywork needs to be considered!
Would a hand held set-up matched together with car antenna be a good alternative??? Just thinking as I also like walking and could double up as a good emergency back-up as we all know mobiles have limited signal in remote areas!?!?
Many thanks.

I have a CB and amateur radio in my Def but there is a problem with TD5's if you site the antenna badly. The most important thing is where you site the antenna, then how you wire it for power, and finally the radio itself. A great radio will be useless with an improper install.

The TD5 works on injectors which are pressurised with a camshaft, and the pressure is 'fired' by the ECU grounding a solenoid through a relay. That generates significant RF noise a lot like a car ignition system that is not suppressed. Put your CB aerial as far from the engine and ECU as you can.

The PSM-1 is highly recommended. Vehicle Aerial Mounts - Assorted Vehicle Mounts - : PSM-1 Rear/Side Mount with 5m cable with plug

Forget about using a spliiter to share the car radio, it attenuates both car radio and CB signals to the point of being useless. don't waste your money on it!

Kind regards
Clive

Didn't know that , makes sence tho thanks got mine on a roof rack it's just earthed to the rack , that's coming off as its noisy as feck think rear tub or gutter at back of cab might be a good place to move it to .

think you will have to put a earth strap on if ya fix to gutterin or bodywork to get the ground..

front bull bar would be better...

have a looky at my new rack... got a plate on it to disturb airflow to stop it being noisy...

Don't fancy scraping my paintwork :) front bumpers near da injectorers :) might stick it to the non moving bit of the tub cover

I got a thunder pole T1000 and it's really good. I use a gutter mount so the whip is well above the car and just scraped a bit of the paint of the inside of the gutter to get to bare aluminium also did a double check with a multimeter to heck it was a good earth ack to the battery. Range is really good, used it with my mate and we were getting clear send and receive at about 5 miles apart on the motorway
