hiya

i was thinking of replacing my engine due to its high mileage

well ive decided to listen to u guys and leave it alone

going to do instead and was windering if i can pick ur brains please

is there a filter iniside the auto box, if so is it a question of dropping off the gearbox plate if it was would every bit of auto gearbox oil come out, as if it did could i then put the correct amount straight back in etc

didnt know if any could be retained by the box

will replace the rear fuel filter hasnt been done since ive owned it

change the glow plugs

change air filter

fit a rear cig lighter in the rear side panel, for a cool box to save taking it off the rear console, i imagine theres no point in trying to get another panel with it all ready fitted due to extra cost, it it the same as the rear console one, is it a question of just drilling a hole, does anyone know if there is aplug connection or do you have to connect into the main loom, or would it be easier to tap into the rear towing plug that i belive is behind the rear side panel

thksnso much guys and for telling me not to mess around with the engine and fgoing to give it a real good service instead

plus a company in north london said they have got a pre obd2 software that willnwork with my car and also be able to program a new remote in for the cost of £135 that has a wireless bluetooth box and software onto my laptop

will let u know if it works

thks again

Hi
I think the answer to your first question is in the question
Bottom sump plate
If you take it of, oil will come out.
If all of it or of there's a filter I don't know

morning Gary,

Not sure that the autobox has a filter, there's no mention of it on any service schedules. The idiot on wheeler dealers worked on a porsche the other night, which did have a filter, but not sure that the freelander auto has one.

Word of caution about the auxiliary power socket. Be careful where you pick the feed up from, and make sure it is an ignition switched feed, not a permanent feed.

Otherwise, you'll park up for the day, come back and marvel at how cold things are in the cool box, which has been draining the battery while you've been away. Some of the cool boxes draw quite a lot of current, so could kill the battery quite quickly.

If your freelander is the same as mine, there is a 12V socket in the back of the front console between the drivers seats. I slit the carpet and fed a cable from there to the boot under the carpet to the door sill, then back under the trim to the boot.

Tis switched with ignition so should be fine. Don't forget to fuse it somewhere along the line, preferably where you join into the existing wiring.

The Jatco auto box does have a filter but it's not a normal service part unless you are splitting the box casing which is beyond most main dealers let alone the home mechanic!!
I use a Bluetooth OBD box which links to my mobile phone !!
There are other systems that cost around £100 that plug in permanently so you can check faults on the fly ;)

Oh blimey that's out then will just be a good old service then

Didn't see the wheeler dealers prog, got it on record

Been searching for ages as I'm pretty sure op kindly put on pics about what nut not to take out of the box, the large autobox gasket is slightly weaping so was going to take it off , clean the casing and replace the gasket,

Also will hopefully be testing this pre obd2 software soon so fingers crossed it will all work

Suppose to read and clear codes, show live data and can reprogram key fobs

But as always we will see

Still can't find a garage fairly local that hires out the 2 or 4 post ramps as that would be ideal , to hire one for the day so I can get everything done

You still in swanley op , would be good if we could one day catch up

Thks again guys

Gary

Hi Gary - if you check in TOPIx you will find all the details you need for additional rear sockets. A neater alternative to running an extension cable from the passenger compartment. Info is in the ICE section.

Mine is on the left-hand side panel just forward of the rear seat release lever. All the wiring pick-up points are behind that panel ready.

Don't try to fit it on the right as that's got the fuel tank stuff there!

thks for the info

appreciate all the help i can get, also thks about the autobox filter, at least i know its not going to be changed by me due to specialst tools required

like the idea of tapping into the back cig light wiring and under the carpet

when u say the wiring is behind the panel, mines a 3 door, is it behind the rear side left panel or the panel where the speaker is

thks again

thats great ,thks for that

ive been trying to load the rave software onto my ipad so i can try and find the part numbers, is it green oval that also does the freelander manual

my laptop died and went out and got an ipad 4 and cannot remember all the links etc

trying to also find the wiring looms so i can put 2 x spots and 2 x fogs on the front

including who sells them and the switch panel kits and switches

thks again
