Hello Range Rover people,

I'm going to look at a tidy green range rover tomorrow and was wandering if someone would take the time to give me there opinion.
Its a diesel (2.5DT),
its got a private plate but its the p38 shape,
its manual,
done 170k,
long t &t,
generally good condition,
some sh
Asking about £1200

What do you think?
I've had 2 discos so i know roughly what i'm looking at but haven't had much to do with RR's

Take it up the steepest hill you can find at full throttle.

This was the only check I DID NOT do when buying mine and yes, its head was knackered. (if head has gone, it will overheat under the strain)

Test all electrical equipment at least three times. (P38's biggest bug bear) something will not work but can you live with or without it?

Test how far away the remote works. (or do you have to be near the drivers rear wing - small problem in reality)

Leaky Diffs & Transfer box

Leaky front hubs

Wet footwells (leaky heater O rings)

Check if rad has ever been changed. (saves the head cracking)

Generally everything you would on any car - chassis bent, etc.

Good luck.

At least if you buy it and it has problems, the guys here are a mine of info and always ready to help. They have kept me sane!

:)
What millage did yours have on it to find the Head had gone. Mines done 70k and its cracked the block, Head has been p/tested and skimmed. Just waiting for the new block to arrive, this has been a very expensive job. Once its sorted its off, looking to buy german, Audi or Merc just hav'nt got any confidence in it at all. Nice car shame about the reliability Bazz.:( as mentioned check every thing at least twice, if auto make sure it changes up and down ok, air suspension seats, heater and air con.

You didn't mention what year it is however even if a 95 that's a good price. As you've already had a couple of Landys and if you're even modestly comfortable with a spanner in your hand, go for it. Plenty of things do go wrong but none are terribly difficult to fix. One thing you will need is access to a good diagnostic set up. Other than that, the RAVE manual show you almost everything. Just make sure you get the radio code and the EKA code and store them safely somewhere you can gain access to at any time.
