Im fairly new to having a landy and im now in the process of stripping it down for painting and noticed the vent on the wing runs straight into the heater,... Whats the deal with water gushing down there?

I have a safari snorkel fitted but its not connected, so what part do i need to search for so i can get it connected?

And....

What about this going under water.....?

heater getting wet, you get wet feet, and may need to clean the matirx out every so often :)

snorkel, no idea, not got that type.

3, that breather needs sorting, I do wonder why its there though, that breather should go straight back into the sump to recycle the oil back down there, whats at the other end (ie where that should connect??)
 
That's the oil breather and should connect into the air filter ducting. No idea what that sponge setup is all about, presumably to soak up excess oil but that's what a catch tank is for :s although they're not fitted as standard
 
So can anybody show me where this pipe is meant to go then because its starting to make a right mess of my engine?
 
It's supposed to go to the air filter housing here:

If your filter housing hasn't been tampered with or changed when they rerouted the pipe then you should just need a new pipe to refit it to the correct position.

However if it's making a bit of a mess of your engine it's obviously passing a bit of oil which is common, but I'd recommend fitting an oil catch tank (something like this) in order to stop the oil being put back into the engine. It's something I keep meaning to do...
 
My filter has defiantly been tampered with as its just a pipe going to a filter shoved under the wing :rolleyes: (cowboys lol)

Any chance of a picture a little further away so i can picture it better?
 
So does that mean what comes out of that pipe is getting sucked up to where the air intake goes? :s im confused here lol
 
The little black cylinder mounted to the side of the engine where the pipe comes from is the cyclone breather, it's meant to separate oil and air from the rocker cover and send the oil back down to the sump and the air back around to the intake but of course it doesn't work 100% and does pass some oil as well as air into the intake. Thus why fitting an oil catch tank is a good idea, though I've heard of some people just putting the pipe into the chassis as a way of keeping intake cleaner and giving the inside rails some rust preventative. :p

If i decided to put the pipe down into the chassis will water be able to go up it when wading?
 
Engine is 200tdi from a discovery and its in a 1986 90.

I am missing the black cylinder thing
