Glowplug wiring query

Hi, i am in the process of putting a 2.5TD into a series 3 (previously petrol).
Do i need to use the timer relay from a 90/110 or just the series glowplug resistor?
If i need to use the relay do you know what the terminal connections are?
Do i need to use a fuse? If so what rating does it need to be?

the relay on my escort diesel packed up as they seem to do with anoying regularity so i just run a live wire from the battery to a doorbell type on off button on the dash then a wire from the button to the glow plug it all works fine and in cold weather i can hold it on longer than the relay would which is a big help when running veg oil

If that's a 19J 2.5td you're on about they don't have a timer on the glow plugs, all manual as per the traditional style

why not fit a diesel ihnition switch

Would i not still need the resistor even with the diesel ignition switch?

Hi fit a push button and a relay or a returnable flick switch and a relay, the new heater plugs take direct 12V you don’t need a resistor
Your petrol ignition SW wont have the heater option.
