Hi all,
following my thread about hesitant starting, I noticed this morning that The Glow Plug Warning Light doesn"t come on.
Could this be the problem?
The car eventually starts, but it always used to start first time every time, and on my other TD4 the warning light came on everytime I turned the ignition on.
Any help appreciated, PLEASE.

I noticed this morning that The Glow Plug Warning Light doesn"t come on.

given the current outside temperatures ..
i wouldn't expect the glow plug light to illuminate ( mine doesn't )
it's not a 'warning' light .. it's just telling you that they are operating .. or not

see pages 70/71/72 on this :
http://www.rover-club.net/graphics/manuals/16/m47r_diesel.pdf

the cam sensor be known to go tits-up when warm
i.e. if it's on it's last legs .. ( they do have a finite life-expectancy in 'hours-of-operation' )
with the weather as is .. if the vehicle is outside in the sun
it's getting pretty hot under the bonnet just parked up

~~~~~~~~
and btw ..
a diesel will have an easier time of starting from 'cold' if a cetane booster is added to the fuel
or if one uses a 'premium' diesel fuel .. as that has a higher cetane value
The ECM checks the coolant temperature and battery voltage to see if, and for how long the glowplugs are needed for a cold start stratergy.
It then checks the coolant temperature to determine how long they stay on post start to reduce smoke.
