I've just thrown my knackered 12 V glow plugs and fitted the 6V (original) type.

Would someone mind explaing how to revert the wiring back to normal, please.

I know the resistor wiring needs changing somehow, but is there anything else.

Also, how do you wire up the plugs.

Cheers

They have to be wired in series.
The feed goes to the top of No4, from there the middle connector bit goes to the top of No 3 and so on. The last connection goes to earth.

old sea dog is there any way to wire the glow plugs differently as if one fails it looks like whatever is after it will to ??

Generally if one fails the lot fails! That's always been the problem with series-wired plugs, and that's why many have changed to the newer type which are connected in parallel, because if one fails, the others keep going!

I remember that there were some very expensive plugs around a zillion years ago, which switched the failed plug circuit internally, which allowed the remaining plugs to continue working. It also lit up a warning light on the dash to let you know that you were running with one down ... Only it didn't tell you which one, and due to the switching it was easier to replace the lot rather than try and find the one that didn't work!!

@Series71 You use either a full set of Series or or a full set of Parallel glow plugs, and cannot change anything as they are designed differently! Trying to do so usually means a nasty, expensive burning smell !!

See the link on Post#2 and look at the picture in Post #5!

Either way will work, as mine were wired in at the top and out at the bottom, which is why I suggested that!

However, keep it consistant throughout!!
