Glow Plug Indicater Light (Yellow squiggle) stays on after starting - how can I fix this please?
Is it ok to drive until I get it fixed?

Thank you.

It could be a wiring issue between the ECU and the instrument pack on that circuit and the lamp doesnt get the voltage on the earth path to go out.... you need RAVE, multimeter and some basic electrician skills if you want to DIY then i'll tell you what to do

What he said. Is it bad to drive on? Not disastrously, it will burn the plugs out fairly quickly and the constant high load on the electrical system could cause issues on short journeys.

First thing I would do is get the meter out and meter between the top of a glow plug and the block (or any earth point) while the engine is running and the light is showing. If you see system voltage then you can be fairly confident there is a fault causing the circuit to remain energised beyond the normal start up which in turn is keeping the tell-tale light on.

On the TD5 the plugs can actually be brought on and off independently of the glow plug light when the engine is cold to help improve the burn and reduce raw diesel emissions which will kill the cat so I am going to suspect that if the light is staying on and it's a TD5, then its wiring because the ECU would need to be on the fritz to keep that lit all the time because as said, the light and the circuit going live are independent.

Thank you all for your replies. Stupid of me not to mention my model - 1995 300 Tdi.
I'll get my meter out at the weekend and try and follow your advice (discomania).

The stupid thing was to post it under Disco 2 prefix IMO...cos then it's a completely different circuit and we explained everything in vain

Ah, OK. Its a 300tdi! So much simpler here - it could be a wiring issue for the tell-tale light, or the glowplug relay has gone on the fritz. It has the tell-tale light circuit on it so when it is active it brings on the light, it is a timed relay and should switch off after about 7 seconds. Can be got off ebay cheaply enough if required. I would start by doing the meter test, but then pull the glowplug relay out and see if the light goes out on the dash. It is next to the fusebox in the engine bay.
