I've had the glove box off to deal with the heater o-rings. I put it back in and opened and closed it a few times and adjusted the shut-line. It worked fine. Now I can't open it. What to do? I don't think the cable's broken, and it's not locked with the key. Is there a trick?

Cheers,
Henrik

im in the same boat, havent been able to open the glove box in my other p38 since i bought it. (im actually convinced there's money in there!!) i removed the fascia and took the button out and can pull the cable manually and still no joy! :(

Try pushing it up as you press the button
thats what I have to do

Tried that, doesn't work.
Other suggestions?

Tommo, you can adjust the latches in and out by way of a recessed screw next to each latch. You will see them move in and out as you turn the screws. You may have to also adjust the bottom hinges to make it all work smoothly.

Cheers

Did exactly the same thing to my glovebox doing the same matrix o seals. I found that on replacement of the glovebox I didnt fit the catch that is attached to the wire properly and after the first use it popped out of the holder and consequently didnt open the glove box.

I managed to carefully prise the glovebox open a few mm, just enough to show the 3 screws that hold the top onto the dash. Once these were removed the glovebox swings down on the hinges and the offending catch opener was clearly swinging in the wind.

Only extra advice would be to be careful in the removal of the 3 screws as my screwdriver kept rubbing on the top lip of the glovebox and any damage will be visible when complete. I managed to keep this very minimal and is not really noticable.

Hope this helps

Paul

Thanks Paul,
I was hoping it wouldn't be that complicated, but I guess it's the only way. Right now, I'm thinking that maybe it would be possible to reach the latch from below and behind the glovebox, but it might be too much of a stretch.
I'll give it a go and let you know.

Got exactly same prob with my 97 - p38, never been able to open the box since owned, but looking it previous posts, may try going for the screws.. keep us posted Henrik

Hello
I recently bought a P38 2000 and I have never been able to open the glove compartment - I have read this thread and wondering if anybody has had any joy in opening their glove compartments - its beginning to be a bit irritating!

Assuming the cable is not broken, remove the wood trim facia. This will reveal 2 screws that hold the glove box button. Remove the screws and button and you can then adjust the cable accordingly to your needs. If the cable or the mountings are broken the none of the above will work.

I should find someone with a working one before you try to mend it. The usable stowage is pathetic and you might decide that it isn't worth the bother.
