Ok my discovery is starting to make a funny "gggrrr" noise from gearbox area when you pull away in 1st or reverse although seems worse in reverse. It happens just as you start to lift the clutch then goes when you either come out reverse or engage 2nd. It doesn't do it any other time...it's quiet when your in neutral and press clutch up and down so is my box about to fall to bits ?

Sounds like the release bearing on the clutch pressure plate fingers.

I had a new clutch in mine recently, and it started doing it. I greased the pilot bush and fitted a new release bearing and greased where the bearing runs on the carrier on the front of the gearbox.

I didn't grease the contact point on the fingers and I think it is the bearing spinning up from rest that makes the noise in one position, and then maybe a slightly different noise as you pull away.

Only when cold, never does it once it's had a few gear changes.
