I have 2 Landrovers- a 1981 Series 3 21/4 petrol. Took this one to Africa in early 2000s and did a 15 000 mile round trip of southern Africa. Only mechanical problem was a blown head gasket for which I had a spare. Did this with wife and 3 kids 4, 7, 11. Marriage just about survived.
I Have now bought a 2004 Defender with aircon and all the mod cons. Starting to equip it. Things have changed a bit since last time-for example cannot seem to buy bullbars. Will have to have this fitted in Cape Town with twin swing-away spare wheel carrier.. Seems cheaper there fortunately. Hope the more modern beast will be as reliable. Will have to spend some money at Ashcrofts.
