Hi Guys,

i will be getting some new batteries soon for my RRC. Main battery for starting and general duties, and aux battery for occasional winch and power supply while offroading & camping.

Could someone recommend me which batteries to go for? I'm at Leeds, west Yorkshire area. I am not going for Optima's, thats for sure due to cost, and I am not going for cheapest. Am looking for reasonable duty batteries at reasonable prices.

thanks in advance!!

go find your nearest agricultural supplier and get a couple designed for starting tractors - excellent quality at a fraction of the more traditional suppliers prices

I agree
I got a 95Ah starter battery and a 110Ah leisure battery for £110 the pair. Made in UK too!

Trew....does your batteries have a brand name on them??

You say a starter battery and a leisure battery....are they in the same vehicle?? How do you link them up, with splir charger I presumed??

Yes - Avon is the brand name.
Yes, I've got the X-Eng split charge system.

Thanks Sean..This is what I am using currently....http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn226/kingsonlim/P1010307.jpgProbably I should re-phrase my question...what I meant to ask is could I mix starter battery and leisure battery on the same system as I am not sure how caravan batteries are linked to car 12v system..what I was told was not to mix different types of batteries, not even batteries of different Ah, as the lower Ah battery will be over-charged and suffer damage. So, it seems if connecting them (starter and leisure) through split charger, they are okay???

different types / sizes of battery are fine, through a split charger.

a split charger, is basically a high current relay, triggered from the wire between the altenator and the charge light.

the X-Eng relay actually states on it "100A", which is it's continuous rating. it will actually withstand much more than that for short periods.

have a look at your relay - some of them are only rated at 30A.

if you decide to get a new split charge it might be worth taking x eng up on their offer. you can get 2 batteries off them and the charge system thrown in for free! its 180quid though. but the batts look tippity top :D
