Hi can someone please tell me we’re the sensor is what it looks like and the part number please.sorry I’m new to the site and need a bit of help with this . I have a 2001,2.5 Diesel BMW engine Range Rover p38 thanks hope someone can help.

Which sensor are you talking about? If it's temperature, there are 2 one for the gauge and one for the EDC.
 
Once had this with a loose positive terminal to battery lead .As it moved gave a false reading. Took off cleaned and refitted and tightened up correctly ,no problems
 
How much charge should the battery be holding?
After looking at the battery on the can the previous owner has put a 95Ah with 760cca
Am I right in saying this isn’t adequate for the car and I need a 115 Ah with 1000 cca
And it’s the gearbox overheat sensor that’s the error I keep getting thanks for any help.

If the car is a diesel, that battery is on the small side. Low battery voltage will often throw a gearbox fault.
Battery Megastore MF31-1000 does the job. You need the check the alternator voltage at 2K rpm, it's likely to be 13.8 volts which is too low for modern automotive batteries which need at least 14.2 volts to charge. The alternator regulator can be changed easily for a 14.7 volt version.
