Evening all,
New to Landyzone and kindly redirected by Lord Hippo to the correct forum for advice following my introduction. Time to change the oil in the gearbox and transfer box of my 08 defender (puma). Getting a little tied up in knots with semi synthetics v full 'GL4 & GL5' etc etc with comments in the ford forum not to use full synthetics where WSD-M2C200-C is quoted. Most online oil agents quote the full synthetics when you type in your VRM?? Any thoughts...Paul

The gearbox is filled for life (125k miles max then change it). This is because a fully synthetic oil is used. LR specify Castrol BOT 130M or equivalent. When the time comes to change mine I will be using Comma MVMTF PLUS 75/90 fully synthetic, this meets BOT 130 and WSD-MC200-C.
I'll do a separate reply for the transfer box ------

Transfer box - change at 50k miles or sooner. A GL5 is specified. I used Castrol Syntrax Universal Plus (Castrol Syntrax Universal is specified by LR). I haven't got an attachment for this one but you will find it on Castrol's website. It meets GL4 and GL5 and is fully synthetic. One thing to note is the filler plug on the transfer box is NOT a level plug on the Puma (unlike earlier models), you have to measure the volume in.
