Gearbox - sounds like its hitting another gear...

Hi.
As the title says my gearbox is making a horible noise as though a gear is just touching another gear. it does do it in other gears but mainly 4th....
So i have stripped the box..... all looks good.....
The only thing i did find is the lay shaft bolt through the bell housing was unwound alot! I guess the layshaft must have been floating. Sound possible??
Gears look in great condition!!

When stripping mine I found the bolt to be quite loose. I held a socket on it and just turning the mainshaft got it loose

Bolt is supposed to be loctited in place and there is a torque setting in manual which from memory is around 80ft/lb

Is the mainshaft nut tight at the back of the box? I think that can also cause the mainshaft to have a good bit of endfloat on it

Everything else was tight. Thats the only problem I have found.
think I should strip transfer box???

If you think transfer box just take the big plate off the bottom (where the drain plug is). You can see all the transfer box gears then
