Had a minor heart attack this morning when my 2014 Disco came up with a warning "Gearbox is overheating". Admittedly I was in Sport mode, however I was crawling in traffic. The warning came up without any warning lights or sound, stayed on for about 3 seconds and then went away.

Got home, plugged in the Lynx and the only code present is P2787 which is "Clutch Temperature Too High - Over temperature". According to the workshop manual "Rear differential actuator active for prolonged duration due to driving style or terrain". The suggested fix is allow the diff to cool, reset the warning. It says the DTC is set when the clutch pack calculated temperature exceeds 200 degrees C. I still don't really know if this is related to the message that came up or not.

Driving style was "stuck in traffic". Terrain was "a flat road in a town". I had driven around 7 miles normally from the engine being cold.

Has anyone else experienced this? If my gearbox was genuinely overheating I would have at least expected some audible warning and a warning light, not a friendly reminder! If I had been looking at something out the window I probably could have missed it altogether. Plus if a DTC is set, then surely some warning symbol should be illuminated to warn me?

The vehicle is a 2014 SDV6 with about 46k miles. I am assuming the gearbox is the ZF8HP70(?), and although they say they are "sealed for life" I would prefer, as a precaution, to change the oil in the gearbox and transfer box. Does anyone know which fluid is correct? My TD5 defender gets all new oil every 10k miles regardless!

Thanks,
Tom.

Logically ..you weren't under load, no long drags up hills whilst towing etc etc.. I think that landrover sensors like to remind us, they have the capacity to unnerve us at any time, mine does it periodically just to remind me it's a bitch at times.
