Gearbox or diff went bang

Thanks for the adivice guys. It was definately coming from the t/box as the noise faded the closer I got to the main gearbox and engine. Keith, I think your right, found fresh oil on the casing and as the previous owner was a complete muppet when it came basic maintainence (the current one also for not thinking to ask about it) I would say it's been leaking for a while and run dry.

Now for a few questions:

1 - Is this something that can be changed on a drive?
2 - Seeing as it's possibly run dry, will it be salvagable or would a replacement be a more viable option?
3 - Who like bacon buties, tea/coffee and beer tokens :biggrin1:

!. yes it can be done on your drive, large trolley jack required unless you can bench press 112lbs from the side on to your stomach then lift and push on to the gearbox. It is possible , I know from experience when my clutch went in France. 2. as long as the casing is intact then it can be rebuilt. A replacement may be more viable. Check your diff levels when you are under the motor:)
