it would be a lot easier if you take the airbox off.

simple to do just unbolt the two 8mm bolts on the inside of the battery tray then pull off the hose to the throttle body and then the one at the front behind the headlamp.

2 litres of MTF94 -available at Halfrauds, Eurocarparts etc.

It is not so easy to refill the box.

I would suggest:

4 bricks - one under each wheel. You don't need ramps - but if you have them you need 4 so car is level. This makes getting the undertray off easy.

A sryinge to refill it with.

Take out the filler plug first - it has been known that folks drain out the old oil only to find they can't refill. :(

Same applies to the IRD - which is easy to do at the same time.
It takes 1.1 litres of 75W-90 Gear Oil.

Edit: just checked that MG link - I think using a syringe is easier than a funnel.

The IRD is the Freelander's equivalent to a transfer box. It's bolted to the engine side of the gearbox. The drivers side drive shaft comes out of it!!
