Gearbox not selcting

I have a P38 Range Rover 2.5 diesel that so far has been running great until this morning!!

I started the car this morning selcted drive and nothing happened??
I tried all the gears but nothing happened i then put it back into park and i heard a slight crunch??

Please can anbody advise as i have phoned a local garage and they said this was strange??

I will be greatfull if antbody could shed some light on this problem i have.

Update!!!

I have had a further look and the dash is saying transfere neutrel does this shed any further light on the problem????

Doesn't sound nice!
Try the obvious first, check the gearbox oil level, remember to do it with the engine running though.

Agreed, check level with engine running, after that, if there is fluid in there then get back in and trying moving the gear shifter all the way down to 1 and see if it will move off then.
