Hi all. I'm not technically a 'new' user as I browse the forum daily for tips/advice and to see whether I can offer advice (which I can't!) but this IS my first post, so be kind....

Ok, I've got a series 2a rebuilt with 90 panels, a series 3 gearbox and a 200tdi engine. The other day after some mild offroading, I got back on the tarmac, disengaged the FWH, put it back in low box and set off, only to hear an awful knocking from the front of the gearbox (as far as i can tell). The kocking only happens in 3rd and 4th gears and gets faster as I go faster. Have I chipped a tooth like my dad thinks? Any advice would be appreciated. I've currently take out the seats, floor pans and seatbox and am waiting for my dad to decide to come and help me (fix it for me!).

Cheers, Gareth

erm, yea! thanks for the advice!

Forgot to mention, it ran for about 10 miles afterwards (going slowly just in case) but the gave up the ghost a mile from home. It kind of felt like the gear box was choking the engine (excuse the poor description) and it cut out then didnt want to start so i just walked home and my dadtowed it back with my discovery. When it was being towedn, with h-lo box in neutral and gearbok in neutral, there was an even louder clunking coming from the gearbok front end. Anyone had anything similar?

i think you should look at ur uj's and pull bacl and push the knob back again (freewhell hubs might have something to do with this!!

hmmmm halfshaft (propshaft maybe )
