gearbox fault

Hi guys any advice please started car it said gearbox fault would not engage r d when it did engage it lurched with a clonk ; I've also not got sports button working, I drove around eventually stopped it then started again but all seams ok now no warning and sports button working , any ideas pleas should I be worried, regards mick.

Thanks for reply mate , is that it new battery required ?would that cause gearbox to play up and not run properly ? Thanks .

Yup, check the alternator output and drop test the battery ( ATS or Halford etc will do it).

I do take it as being a P38 auto

Very susceptable to low voltage which is why it cleared after the engine ran, probably a battery on its way out.

Yep it is was I've come to work tonight no probs it changed ok and kicked down ok , that's what confused me , so much appreciated ill get those checks done on my days off, my next job is oil leak from front diff , but that's another thread lol.mick .
