hi wondered if anyone could help? does anybody know if transmission breather on d3 manual
just sticks up the front of bulkhead, had oil leaking into engine undertray
and found the breather pipe hanging down side of engine and oil running out.
oil was clean but quite thin, end of rubber pipe was hard and looked like it had broken off something.
any help definately appreciated.

hi mate

indeed the breather pipes are secured to the bulkhead , found a pic of the manual gearbox breather pipe for u

as u look at the engine bay is the breather pipe on the right hand side in front of the engine down by the air inlet pipe plse, if so that’s ur front diff breather pipe and on the end has a round rubber hose with a small clip on the end

hope that helps in trying to narrow it down

are u able to get a picture of the pipe plse

after you’ve pressed reply ur see upload a file, press that, it then shows choose file , then select a picture from ur folder , then select show full picture and it will be shown in ur reply

hope that helps

finally figured how to post photos i think sorry for the delay in getting back to you mr stuart:)

hiya

Plse no need to apologise , so glad u got it sorted out , just an idea if it’s an open end it might be best to get some 6mm plastic tubing and a couple of pushfit elbows as u could then point the breather pipe down to prevent any ingress of dirt or water

or even easier get a breather that is normally fitted onto the front diff breather

personally extended my front diff breather to the Aux battery area, only because I had some spare 6mm pipe, at least then I knew it would be well out the way , plus the front diff breathers are known to block up leading the diff blowing seals

enclosed the part number as well for u, oh wow just looked and blimey they’ve gone up in price , approx £16.00

If u haven’t got any 6mm pipe can always buy 2 x 6mm stem pushfit elbows, that will then allow the pipe to point downwards , at a cost of approx £8.00 instead of the £16.00

More than happy to help where I can

Thanks for your reply i will have a look for something and would it beneficial to put a filter on the end. Or is it not that important thanks.

ur so very welcome , just managed to find the link I was looking for , ie, can get 2 x stem elbows to put on the end for around £10

doesn’t need a filter on the end but just something to prevent ingress of any dirt or water seeing it’s pointed vertically

did have another thought if u may have any spare copper brake pipe around , alas not sure how the size compares, I’ll check that out for u as thought of bending some copper in a U shape, then a pushfit coupling then finally secured with a clip, will double check the sizes for u seeing the plastic pipe is 6 mm

sorry I’m waffling as per usual, lol

Hope it helps

See this is the original pipe so at least it gives u an idea of the termination point

that’s great it’s if some use to u , will be awesome if u already have some of those stem elbows

Your so welcome and always a pleasure to help where I can , alas still got a few projects on mine , however on a Land Rover I don’t think u ever get to the stage where it’s 100% finished, lol

Few of my projects are , got dual batteries but last year I bought a DC to DC charger and a 100 watt solar panel , A bar plus spotlights , D4 front headlights including D4 wings to match , boot sliding floor , so that should keep me busy for a little while ;)

please let us know how u get on and once again always a pleasure to help mate

sorry to sound ignorant but i didn`t know it had had a servo update ,apart from changing filters and hitting the pre heater with a hammer
to make it work i haven`t done anything else under the bonnet, will have been previous owners .they did some jobs and just left others.
the more expensive ones.

hi mate

indeed regarding the servo, recall was because oil was finding its way into the servo, so the recall was replacing the servo, some pipework , master cyl and vacuum pump , however looks like urs has already been done

Did find the details of what was involved as a reference for u , plus I think it was a £800-1,000 job

hope the information is useful to u , as always plse don’t hesitate to ask anything as there’s a good few of us now that own D3/4
