over the last few days I have noticed that when the gearbox heat up the gear stick get sticky. It is noticable when changing from 5 down to 4 when doing motorway driving for 20/ 30 minutes after 1 or 2 changes seems free again ok again. Clutch seams fine!

get an oil change on the box to start with as ya oil can cause alot of thouse sorta problems.

ok I was wondering if the oil level could be low
I have not had a chance to check with the weather the way it is .
thanks,
could I be facing a more serious problem?

i put that in mine, '98 300 tdi r380 box,
once warmed up i have a good gear change, no problems, smooth with out clunks or trouble finding gears up or down
Better than dexronII i think, which i originally put in along with a new bias plate on the gear selector, repair didn't go quite all the way on solving the finding 2nd gear problem i had, although this was in main part due to the bust bias plate, but changing oils again really did the trick to complete the fix with out having to adjust the replaced plate further, MT94 is good gear.

My 2002 did exactly the same.

Changing the gear box oil made a big difference. Changing it again 6000 miles later cured it !. ( as my local Landrover man said it would ).

Del.

main dealer gave me mtf and recommended it as new LR specified oil w/ improved viscosity , its a land rover /texaco product, probably within dexII/ATF standard range.
You'll find loads of different opinions and preferred choices, i recommend the MTF from experience, but i had other things to do to nail the problem.

thanks all
today i had a look under and their is a drip of oil at the clutch to gearbox joining - so this could be my oil leak. !!!

I now need to get a local source for MTFto oil,

change the 4th gear baulk ring for the newer version so it doesn't get in the way of the synchro

or don't hurry the gears
