does anyone know how to remove the gear knob on a manual freelander td4 52 plate ? is it a yank and hope or are they screwed on ?

A gas axe will do the job, but assuming you want to replace the knob at some point and you'd rather not torch your Freelander then I recommend you attempt to unscrew the said object from the shaft.

Hello everyone,

I have the same question except mine is the auto gear knob (2006 Td4). Youtube has a video but again this is for the manual gear knob.

I found a "Wiki" answer which says you need to put the car in Neutral, press the selector button and yank it (hard) upwards and the knob will come off. I just wanted to check if this is true before I attempt (and break) anything.

My leather gaiter needs changing and am planning to order one off eBay.

Thanks in advance,
Darren

hi

mines a 2002 auto and just had to give it a good pull whilst holding in the gear selector button, dont know if the manual is different

put it into neutral only so it made it easier to get off

hopefully that may help

Thats the way to do it but like Pardec says keep your face out of the way mine hit me square in the middle of my kisser :(

Manual unscrews, auto pulls off. As said earlier if you are unscrewing and it goes round and round then apply upwards pressure

Good day,

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'll give it a go when the gaiter arrives.

Would I be right to say I only need a new gaiter, and can reuse everything else, example the plastic collar immediately below the gear knob?

Thanks again,
