Gear change woes...

Hi It seems I find one thing and everything else comes out of hiding.
I've been driving along for the last few weeks thinking how strange engaging reverse is.
Its now so far back and to the right that I struggle to release the hand brake (!!)

Is this a known problem, is there anything I should take a look at?

Worrying thing is, now, I can convince myself I hear grinding !!!

Sounds like the bias plate is broke.

Basically it's a small plate at the base of the gear-lever, so the cover needs to come off .. pretty straightforward once you've removed the 10 (or is it 12) rivets and the rubber membrane ... search the forum, ISTR a picture set showing what to do ...

Thanks - I'll go investigate.
Would this also explain it slipping out of 5th gear as I'm driving down hill?

Possibly .. it can cause all sorts of 'odd' behaviour from the gears stick as it's not correctly aligned anymore.
