Hiya
I have a 2004 HSE Td4 auto , first problem I had was with the gears not changing into 3rd very well , it would rev high then drop into 3rd , this happened more often and more so after sitting in traffic , now it is happening every day even without being in traffic and the F4 now flashes up each time it struggles to get to gear and then is in limp mode , so have to pull over and it’s ok for a while then would do it again , have been reading about solenoids or wiring , it’s booked for the garage that feel it’s the oil sticking to the solenoids , it’s been into them a couple of time so far , he’s good he hasn’t charged me at all so far and won’t do work that isn’t needed , it only has 62000 on the clock , does it sound like the garage may be right and the oil change will solve the problems ?
Cheers

That flaring symptom sounds like lazy/sticking Valvebody solenoids..

A valve body rebuild woth new solenoids might fix the issue..

However i'd refrain from driving it as failing solenoids will cause premature 'box wear..

Look fer the resistance test in the Freelander section. Video ont YouTube. Majority of the time F4 flashing is an electrical problem in the barrel connecters or wiring harness.
