Been over it in October absolutely superb went with three others North - South. It is restricted now to 100 inch wheelbase vehicles and one day a month for vehicles and bikes. Dates for next year have been posted on the LDNP web page, you have to apply as a club or group with at least two vehicles. We mad a day of it going over the Kentmere lane straight after then some others, only saw two Bobblies all day as they set off up Gatescarth

If you know the dates you want I am sure I can find someone to go with you if on your own ? I live just down the road in Sedbergh off junction 37 M6.

might have to arrange a date then Chris :) is there no way of going on your own and just waiting for someone else (with permit) to tag along with? i will be the early june one or july date i would imagine. have to work out when we are doing the Scotland thing.

Like to do it but the permit system prevents many doing it, they are restricted to a certain number of groups, you have to go before 1pm and its only about 6 sunday morning per year you can go on.

On the dates we wanted to go told we would not get a permit, than found out a group who did get a permit did not do it cause it was raining.

So we given up trying its just for a selected few

Unfortunately it's the way it's all going to go I think. LDNP have been very helpful when we have gone, you are only allowed 2 trips over as an organisation in a year with a max of 4 vehicles each time. They allow 12 4 x 4 over on each permit day only so you have to apply in good time.

The restrictions are basically to stop a) the idiots and b) the Commercial users like Kankkhu who are gradually spoiling it for everyone trying to use the excellent lanes in the Park.

I personally think the LDNP web site is pretty good with information on what you can and cannot drive especially given the vociferous Rambler Groups who want us and the mountain bikers out of "their" playground where they do no dammage at all unlike all the other users
