Clarke welders from machine mart are good enough for diy use, and reasonably priced. Ignore the rivet counters and purists that tell you gasless welders aren't up to the job, they're talking ****e. I've welded loads of stuff with my dual purpose using gasless wire and it welds just as well as a gas weld. If you were building a racing car and making you're own chassis, then yes a gas welder probably would be better. But for patching and welding rear crossmembers on. The gasless will do a more than satisfactory job, and if working outside as most of us do. There's no gas shroud to blow away..

Get at least an 100amp one but 130 or ideally 150 if your welding any thick stuff would be better.

it's got to be gased for me, simply due to the neatness of the weld compared to gasless

however dont forget to include the cost of the bottles and refills along with the regulators if you go gassed

Hi I have just bought 135 TURBO from Machine Mart, gas, its top draw once you get the settings right you can weld anything, but when you buy get a spare gas and wire, I had to make a return trip,I tested a bit too much.

we've got a couple of those, one of which has had 6 years of hard work, and they have both been faultless and more than able to weld almost everything you could ever want to do on a landy

don't go wasting your money on those silly small gas bottles at nearly a tenner a go - spend 30 quid on a twin guage regulator and an adaptor pipe to connect to the full size bottles that will last weeks not minutes

If youre doing chassis work i wouldnt get anything lower than 130 amps and even with that you're going to struggle with getting enough penetration. 150 would be better.

a 100A MIG is fine for all landy work, as long as your a fairly competent welder

130A will make life easier for a beginer

Avoid the SIP migmate 130.

I got one and the wirefeed is really poor... just as you get onto a decent run the wire speed fluctuates or the feed roller slips... not impressed.

And it was a recomended buy in a magazne as well..!

ok man .... cant use gas due to my illness,

regards wigan andy

Hmmm.... if you have a lungs problem ( I had nearly half of mine taken out in 1996) then gas or gasless, the fumes from one are about as bad as the fumes from the other, and perhaps you should avoid welding at all?

What's the particular reason for you thinking gasless would be less problem than gas? In fact, it is almost certain that GAS-arc welding like MIG/TIG will produce LESS nasty fumes than gasless, because the gasless rods and wire are covered in a flux that creates a horrible gas shield as you weld.

ive got a stick welder but its on its way out ive tried a gas one boy could i not breath but its not as bad with a arc , just fancied a gasless make job easy only want to weld inner wing and sill nothing big, stick welder is to strong for inner wing wont go lower enough due to been knackard.

I think that is a maintainance issue, ie liner, tourch or tip as I have no problem whatsoever with the Migmate 130.. a super little welder.
