Hi All,

I have a 98 Disco 3.9ltr v8i with a 1st generation gas system.

The first brass filler I had on the car was faulty so I got a new one and changed it, its been fine up until recently after filling up with gas the attachment from the gas station gets stuck onto my filler and it takes some getting off, even though I have turned the attachment all the way back.

So last night I was filling up with gas and it got stuck so I turned the attachment all the way back and I could feel it coming off my filler so I turned it a bit harder and as the attachment came off my filler gas started to leak out of my filler.

I thaught I had damaged my filler but after I got home the leak had stopped.

I checked this morning (when it was daylight) and the copper pipe and connection to the filler is ok with no leaks and I could not smell any gas leaking.

Now thinking about it today I thaught maybe I over filled with gas and what was coming out of my filler was just excess gas that didnt go in the tank???

Am I barking up the wrong tee, has this happened to anyone else.

Thanks very much

John

Looks like its a warn filler as the problem seems to be on and off, I will order a new one and change it.

Cheers

I've a similar thing happen once, gas was leaking out of the filler as it hadn't seated properly, i reconnected the bayonet a pumped little bit more in and it sealed. Try another filing station bayonet??

There should be non-return valves on the tanks, so only what is in the filler pipes will be released when you undo the filler hose.

The filler pipes and the engine feed pipes should be separate from each other as well.

This is exactly what happens, on Sunday morning I lost about a quater of a tank of gas because the seal didnt seat properly, I did a bit of a daft thing but I poked it with a style from my pda and it sealed, it could have just as easily squirted gas out and blinded me.

I have ordered a new filler, not worth taking chances.

Cheers
