Land rover defender seat box sides, galvanised, LOOK!! | eBay

further to my riveting thread the other day i found these when looking for repair panels..

so .... 1987 90 , seat box ends holed - i believe the box is birmabright with a steel battery box ? does having galvanised seatbox ends sound like a good idea ? my limited knowledge says ill just end up with the birmabright turning into white powder at the rivets.

anyone fitted these before ? they any good ?

cheaper than YRM anyway (not sure if thats a good thing mind you)

galvanic compatability

Well what about aluminum on the fenders and disco:doh::doh::doh:
If you is worried about that then, fit the panel drill all your holes for the pop rivets or what ever and then coat the contact areas with rtv silicon no fuss, or if you can find it white lead paste ( the old gits on here should remember)

Actually it's electrolysis -the electric reaction between 2 dissimilar metals, as there atomic make up ( there atomic number) is different.

But the reaction between steel and zinc is less than steel and aluminum as the first ( steel/ zinc is more compatible) and that is why they coat steel with zinc/tin=galvanized

Nope the correct name is galvanic compatability(or series), there are charts to compare materials, why do you think the seat box fails where it is bolted to the galvanised rails
