Series 3 Galvanised chassis

Hi everyone.
After much reading, thinking and consideration. A chassis repair is not a sensible option for Noel.
So, a galvanised chassis is needed.
I have used the search facility here but have been unable to find a conclusive answer.

What manufacturers chassis shall I buy?

Sheilder do ok bulkheads but their chassis are worth avoiding...in my experience.
Richards have the best rep but are also the most expensive and probably the longest lead-time

:)
 
I used Richard chassis for my series 1 chassis the lead time then was 14 month as you had to buy it through the series 1 club and they at the time held the jig
which I believe is now owned by Richard Chassis be sure that the engine and gearbox mounting are correct for you vehicle when ordering and check again when it's delivered
 
I thought Sheilder and Richards were the only manufacturers of galv series chassis these days? And both are the same cost, obviously Richards are the mutts nuts!

Was it the £2080 as advertised or did you get a deal? I've been tinkering with the idea but it's alot of dosh! I can't believe how costs have increased, I'm sure I only paid around the £1200 mark for my td5 galv chassis a few years ago...mad really. But lovely base to build from! :)

They are more than that once you add on the vat and extras!
Personally I don't think that they are expensive. A bespoke hand made galvanised chassis delivered for under 3k. Bargain.
It's not like they are being churned off a production line in their millions.
As I live on the coast and am building to keep, I thought it was a good investment :)

To be fair, when you put it like that I totally agree! It's more probably that I'm trying to pay a mortgage off and at the same time trying to get my old series back on the road, so any money seems like alot right now! :D
I love the peace of mind a galv chassis brings to a Landy project too. Hope you do a build thread, it'll spur me on to do mine!! ;)

Yep, still paying the mortgage as well!
Huge learning curve, never swapped a chassis or bulkhead before.
What's the worst that can happen!!

If you think £2080 is a lot of money try buying a LWB Series 1 chassis . Five and half grand including VAT .

As I say, any amount of money is alot of money for me at the moment! I also meant the increase from a few years ago to now is what surprises me the most, but I guess landies are becoming ever more sought after, and with that comes obvious price hikes. I noticed ashcrofts have put their recon boxes up £100 recently.
Maybe I'll just weld a new crossmember on mine and some front dumb irons and fill her with oil, that'll probably do her for another 5 or 6 years.
