Hi

Just wondering if people know whether insurance companies class a galavanised chassis as a modification and so you have to declare it?
As far as I'm concerned its just a straight swap, old (damaged) for new, is it not? technically no modification has been done.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Thank you
Chris

Replace it ....then claim and see IF they pay .

Unfortunately whilst a Galvy chassis may to all intents and purposes be "identical" to the original ....

As far as your insurance company is concerned you have just made your Landy even more stealable than it was already .

Worth the risk of them not paying out WHEN/if it gets stolen ????

Your choice bud ....Though i know what I have done ;)

Thank you Mat, just what I was thinking, a rather big replacement part but just a replacement part all the same.

I declared everything to FJ ...with not so much as a blink from them ....(galvy (coilsprung designa chassis)winch,Transit engine etc)

Rather pay a tad extra IF needed than be up **** creek come claim time ....and trust me insurance companies would **** their own granny over to get out of paying .

I'll try FJ (Footman James right?) when my insurance comes up for renewal again in a few months. I've got quotes from them in the last few years, but they have been maybe £300-£400 more than anyone else - but maybe as I'm 25 years old now, their price will go down a bit?
I do want to get a 2" lift put on aswell at some point, do you reckon FJ will be fine with that too?

Thanks for all you help

Not sure about stuff like that as i'm on their classic multi vehicle policy ....harking more from the series side of things .

BUT if you choose to not declare stuff with whatever insurance company ...BEWARE ;)

ok cheers.
Mines a 200TDi, but at some point in its life some garage replaced the rear axle with one from a 300TDi, so its got disc brakes all round now - techically not standard to my Landys year of manufacturer. I do suppose that is a modification aswell, but it does obviously mean it stops better than other 200TDi's - an upgraded safety feature..... maybe??

A while ago I had a BMW which had a body kit, which was installed at the factory by BMW, was 100% genuine, which I didn't advise my insurance provider of as I didn't think I had to as it was with car from new! Even then they pulled the insurance after an accident and left me in a spot. I argued this and at one point the advisor told me I need to declare all optional extras above that of the base model - Air-con, floor mats, CD player, child seat - and I listed these to which he agreed.

So don't trust them, and rather give a crook my house keys. They will do anything to get out of paying, especially now when they are making so little out of investing their money.

I tell my current insurer about everything thing I have done to my 110. Fortunately as it's pretty old there is no cost increase, well that is until I get to the engine.....

i asked my insurance about factory fitted a frame and was told did it come from factory fitted i said yes. the reply was thats ok it's only if fitted after??? I have got name times and a full record of conversation because i feel the same anything to back out of claim. It took me two years to sort out the mistake they made on my reg number half the letters i recieved wer for oky the other half for okj which is the correct no. I had to make an recorded complaint to finallly get it sorted.
