morning all,
well talk about gutted,, 8" of snow & I cant go play, no parts till 2m...

discovered the other day (by the RAC bloke my glow plugs not working,, the fuse wire wasnt connected properly?? when he connected it to the battery then tried plugging the relay in it blow the wire,,, he said ****, then jump started the car...

will I be able to reconnecting the wire (solder or with a connector) or will I have to replace the hole thing??

discovery 300tdi

cheers

I'm slightly confused to your issue, but, you don't need glow plugs to start a Disco. It helps... a lot... but, not required (especially not on the good old 200's, even started it at -20 with no glow plugs!)

If you've had a wire damaged by too much current i would replace it

I know, it was him, long story, basiclly it was turning over but not starting (blockage in fuel line) it started with a squirt of the devil juice -easy start, this was after he decided to fix the glow plugs, the main live feed wire is a fuse wire (apparently??) wondering if it is ok to solder it back together? will it still act as a fuse ?? & its started being a bitch in the cold?? having to use a booster sometimes?? the battery is fine.

???
im slightly confused here.
I have a fender 300tdi, so basically the same engine etc.
the main feed is not a fuse "wire" I have 2 fuse boxes, one inside for the aux etc, and a small one under the bonnet with maxi fuses in it.
the main fuse is a 60A, with another one next to it for the glow plugs. Id check that the maxi fuses are the correct rating.
Ive never heard of a fuse "wire" in a vehicle, may be wrong, but never heard of it before.

now I'm even more confused... lol ye same fuse boxes?? the 1 under the bonnet from front to back, 1st is a 100A then 2 60A ?? but the main feed from the relay socket (brown/orange) wire runs under/along side of fuse box with an insulation sleeve over it to the battery, form socket to battery is a think cable with the thin cable connected under the insulation (fuse bit) ??? so do you think this is a bodge job??? which is your fuse the 1st or 2nd 60A ?? I did ask at my landy shop they werent sure ?? they dont do much with discos, more old school but he did get back to me with a price of £35 + an expensive way of replacing a fuse ?? so I dont know,,, is right or wrong ??? mite have a look at the haynes wire diagram ?? then we will be confused
