Everything works fine all indicators and lights. Brake and indicators work together with ignition switched on. Once the engine is started all fine. Hazard lights switch fine too.
Then as soon as I push up the indicator stalk to signal right it blows the fuse that takes out all the indicators and the brake lights. The hazard switch still works fine though...
Someone told me it must be vibration either on the steering column or near the fuse box.
Anyone had anything like this? I don’t like to poke the old girl around too much!

Thanks
I did have trouble with the offside front indicator earth before. It has been working fine. This fuse blowing just started yesterday!
Main problem is Landy had been stood for some time so the corrosion has really set in.
I’ll let you know if it works.

I have taken off the front offside indicator assembly and cleaned up the earth. Worked for a few moments then blew the fuse. Also blew the hazard one this time which it hasn't done before.
So I have take out the lamp and tried again and it is working okay, obviously minus my front right indicator. I am guessing it is either a faulty lamp or a short in the indicator wiring itself.
I cannot try any more attempts today as I have run out of fuses!
I've sourced a replacement and fingers crossed that will sort it...
Until the next time...;)

Not a Defender owner (series) but as posted the indicator bulb holder may be corroded and/or the leads and connections. If it's a 1990 model they maybe the same as series. They only cost about £4.00. They get badly corroded; the live connection internally is prone to this.

Hi
Yes thanks for the advice, I have ordered a couple cost £9 so worth it to fix it.
I think it is a combination of earthing and corrosion - but hey what should I expect! :)
I have replaced the flasher switch too as a precaution as they seem to be the root of evil as well.
The most annoying thing is that I just got it through its MOT and it started the fuse blowing on the way back from that. I did wonder if when they did the bit of welding they may have unsettled something? I also fitted a new brake switch so I was checking that too.
I am hopeful the new assembly will sort it this weekend.
BTW do you know much about bulkheads and chassis?

Ah good old British engineering lol

Where did they weld ?? near to the loom by chance. The loom to the rear runs through the offside chassis leg (usually)
could also check the earth from the gearbox to the chassis leg ;)

Few Spots front end near to suspension spring, then up under the wing and at the back of the chassis near the tow bar.
She's got a bit of rot after being stood!
I will be looking to change the chassis this time next year - well that's the plan anyway.
