funny noise

when i drive there is a chugging like noise it only happens when im in gear sounds worse in 1st and 2nd but is still there throughout ! ive had a clutch fitted and a recon transfer box fitted about 12 months ago is this the gearbox going or something less costly !! ive done 130000 miles so i cant really complain !!

Does the sound change in anyway if the vehicle or the engine speed increases/decreases?

the only change is that it speeds up as the revs increase

If its whilst out of gear the sound could be from the engine, the clutch/release bearing, or the gearbox input shaft or the layshaft. If its whilst driving then the sound could be from those and/or the output shaft, the transfer box, the universal joints, propshaft sliding joints, or the axles (diffs, bearings). If possible get a piece of dowell 18"-24" long and use it as a listening post by placing one end against various non moving parts and place your thumb over the other end and then place the boney part in front of your ear against your thumb.

looks like its the gear box having it taken out over the next few days so should know more ill let you know what it is either way i dont think the wife wanted a gearbox for xmas but we never get what we want do we !!!!!

just to let you all know it was the layshaft bearings so had a recon box fitted as the car has done 140000 miles all is well just broke !!!
