probably another stupid question, but would anyone happen to know why the ignition on my landy would have been changed? - has anyone else got the same thing?

basically to start her, you got to switch the left hand of the three switches below the dash on the right (one of which is the interior lights etc...), to its middle position. and turn the keys. then to turn her off you have to switch it either up or down from the middle depending on how you are feeling. the other thing is that once started you can take the keys out and she keeps on running!

any ideas??

cheers...

sounds like someone has fitted a fuel cut off switch there. this is quite common, but usually utilises a seperate switch!

I had the same thing with taking the keys out on my 90! not sure what this means, mine did fail in the end (engine turned off going down the M4!) and had intermittent probs but replacing the ignition sorted it. it does come in handy over winter though. you can leave it running in the morn and lock the doors behind you :D warms up a treat. like the poor mans eberspacher :D

The keys come (and sometimes fall, over bumps) out while mine is on.

I have also noticed another funny thing in mile lately where after starteing, the oil light comes on and none of the other electrics work (lights, gauges, wipers, etc) but if i fiddle with the ignition switch there is a click somewhere and it all goes back to normal! One of them little landy quirks i think!

Very useful to be able to lock all doors etc while the landy is running - my gate key is also on the ignition so i don't have to turn off the engine to open or lock up! I wonder if Mr Randy Lover thought that out while he was inventing them??!!

it's probably just inline with the fuel cut off solenoid - acts as a very cheap anti theft device, or it might have been done due to contact failure within the ignition switch block

put a multimeter across the solenoid and an earth when switching the switch (with the ignition on) and see what happens

better start saving up for a new ignition switch soon

yeh i quite like it for warm up, cheap anti theft etc...
dont quite know what the switch used to be, its got a pic of a light on it!!

or start the car with it then stick it up me erse, least then i'll know where it is and it wont' be rollin round on the floor! :D - only danger is it might turn into a diamond...
