Hi, I have just bought my defender 110 pickup, I have wanted one for a few years, I have always had this idea of turning the dashboard/interior into something bespoke, maybe a radio at head height etc like you get in lorries, I was just wondering what other people had done and if they would like to share some inspiration?

Mudstuff do an overhead console that should fit any non-sunroof defender. That has a DIN slot for a radio or switches etc, and should be a good place to mount a cb radio if you want to fit one. They also do a very neat central console which is similar to the one fitted to Td5 defenders. Again this comes with lots of space for gauges and gadgets. There's a bit of empty space (even in a pickup) between the door frame and the rear bulkhead that should be suitable for fitting extra speakers for the radio.

Anything bespoke really depends on how handy you are at fabricating bits.

I was going to stick a Td5 into my 200tdi. But costs of repairs are getting out of control so am really considering doing something custom using mdf or something. If woods good enough for Morgans its good enough for my Defender.

Actually surprised when researching, that more people out there aren't doing things with the dashes. I know there are some but the way Land Rover owners love to tinker and some very skilfully so, surprised more haven't attacked the dashes (don't mean the add one you can buy). I love Defenders but have thought the dashes were awful from day 1. I actually love the series 2 dash. Drove one for few weeks and simplicity was awesome.

I do think there is so much scope for dashboards, over head consoles etc, I just can't lay it out in my head, I need some Inspiration ha ha, I like the idea of a td5 dash but I think they impose into the cab a bit much

The dash from a series 3 and 90/110/defender is like the rest of the vehicle: functional. I reckon you could build a custom facia and mount new gauges and warning lights in it quite simply.

The series 2 dash is quite brilliantly simple and could be a good swap.
