picked my money pit up on wednesday today ive noticed that when I full lock it feels like brakes are binding and has stalled a few times it is more on right hand lock also when I have engaged the hill descent nothing seems to happen any ideas so they dont fob me off Ive been back to dealer and have booked it in for the hill descent looks like the 36mth warranty was a good choice:D

cheers mate saved me from looking daft seem to recall my Isuzu bighorn used to do it in 4wd

think I will mention it to them and see what they say .when I press hd should a light on dash come on and do I need to be on a hill tried to search for with no luck

When you press HDC the light on the dash flashes.

It only stays solid green when your in first or reverse and on a hill.

Regarding the stalling, mine is stiff on full lock as well, and can be close to stalling when the engine is cold. As the steering is "stiff" on full lock it takes more engine power to move the vehicle so if the engine is cold then feels like its gonna stall.

It could be the wires to the switch for HDC - I've read somewhere about these coming loose.

It's a great feature when working - i used it to navigate a very steep hill deep in snow the other day in my auto TD4.

it stays solid green when it's switched on and you're in 1st or reverse, irrespective of whether you are on a hill or not. It's not smart enough to monitor the aspect of the vehicle, only the speed each of the wheels turns at in relation to the others.

yup OP's right - stays solid on. I'm not sure if it flashes if your in the wrong gear, mines and auto so stop, hit the button and steer.

Funny watching the guy in the Beemer try to reverse backup the hill as the Freelander gentle coasted down the slop with HDC working. I would have helped but was I late for work :)

read the same thing went back to dealer and he said it would only be a sensor  booked it in for next week its down to them to fix told them that my cd changer wasnt there he tried to tell me it didnt have one but it was advertised as having one showed him advert and got £150 cash for new one only paid £59.99 for a new sony unit :D :D :D

Colin - I've just checked the handbook. The HDC will flash if you are not in the correct gear. It will be constant when in either 1st or reverse. It won't work in any other gear.

Hope this helps

If you have no green hdc light (flashing or otherwise) when turned on then pull up the gear lever gaiter and you'll find the wires to the switch have broken
