Symptoms:

Initially at high speed (well 55 mph  ), and going up hill, the engine would suffer from what felt like a misfire, just occasionally missing a beat.
Accompanied by a more "bass" tone to the exhaust note.

Breakdown recovery, said HGF, and towed it home.
Pressure tested, no sign of HGF, and ran for week with no issue.

However problem has returned again :(

Dropping the clutch, engine appears to rev ok.

However, now engine is stalling even when idling, out of gear.

So obvious reason to me, is a fuelling issue, so going to drain fuel filter, check all fuel lines, might even drain the fuel tank.

However, was wondering if there could be something more obvious??

advice appreciated.

sounds like initially your engine wasnt coping too well under load. have you looked at the fuel lift pump? did you get much smoke from the exhaust whilst doing 55 or going up hills? and what engine is it? from your 55mph i think its likely to be a 2.5 n/a!

also check fuel filter isnt clogged and fuel lines are clean and not kinked. might also be an idea to change your air filter...

when did you last change these?

Thanks Griff.

You guessed correctly 1986 2.5 NA. (Ex-Mod)
No smoke at all, except tiny bit on startup from cold.

Air filter changed last month, along with oil, and the rest of the fluids.

Not changed the fuel filter yet, so hopefully try and get my hands on one this afternoon. I think the vehicle had been sat for a year or two prior to me buying it.

Problems started after I replaced the heater matrix, so wondering if I might have dislodged something, so will check all fuel lines, and injector pipes.
