Hi guys when you go on an expedition do you have a few jerry cans or another built in tank

where are you going, what are you doing, what time of year, what vehicle, what range will you need, where are the fuel stops?

answer those questions and you will find your answer. Search on here and you will find another thread detailing the pro's and con's to both.

I'm on my way to Siberia and have 2 tanks in the 90 (110L) which give me just under 1000km range. I have 2 empty jerry cans on the roof just in case.

Jerry cans are cheap/tanks are convenient just about sums it up.

Coz im thinking about buying a 110 and doing it up and maybe Africa places like that

Not a lot of good empty;)

haha! true ;)

Maybe I should have written 'just incase I think 110 Litres isn't enough'

Its nice to have some back-up if 1 of the tanks leaks, also to carry fuel to from other vehicles and when I'm not sure of fuel stops in Siberia and Mongolia.

Currently sat in a hotel in Georgia ;)

LR 110 for Ethiopia, 2 x fuel tanks.

Spare EMPTY if not needed jerry cans as well.

extra fuel loaded on legs when needed.

was an LR4 but persuaded that it is far to "technical" a vehicle for the country.

110 simple, capable and for those with endless money ever expandable with every after market accesory you think you might need!

Most common vehicle in Addis, a 1960's air cooled beetle!

and you can take a bus to Khartoum or Nairobi.

I nearly was sucked in, but keep it simple, light and standard.

I have a aux fuel tank in the defender I'm taking to India.

It's a 90 so put one in on the basis of saving space and convience.

Addis sounds hilarious. Why all the beetles?

in a 110 you can either fit front driver underseat tank , or one behind rear axle o/s that fills at same time as, and expands rear tank . htsh or both if you have a petrol V8

Having the exact same dilemma as you, I will need one or the other for Morocco this year. Does a second rear tank on a 90 worsen your ground clearance?

It's a lot of money for the second tank but the convenience and getting some of the weight off the roof rack would be nice :/

If you fit the TD5 tank it is fine. If you fit an after-market jobby it depends what you go for.

What are you driving? We travelled in a 90 with standard 45L tank and it was fine! Just take a spare (empty) 20L can in case.

I might go for a TD5 tank, although I will need to find someone who will fit it, as I think it's a bit beyond me  where do people generally put the second filler, just a hole in the floor in the back or something?

It's a 90, I have been following your adventures a while, if you have a standard fuel tank in yours I think that answers my question! :p

Cheers

Just remembered your thread on fitting a TD5 fuel tank to a 200 or 300

ar yes, but I didn't have it fitted for Morocco ;) We took 2 jerry cans and only needed to fill one once.

The Aux tank is a neat accessory and comes in handy. For example, the cost of fuel in Turkey is something like £1.60/litre. So when we left Bulgaria I filled up both tanks (85p/litre) and that got us most of the way across Turkey. Saves a fair bit of £££ there.

if you want to be greedy you could fit a left and right under seat tanks and a tank at the back of the back axle and connect them with feeder pipes lol

The underseat tanks of series will fit under seatbox on 110 , the best option is an ex mil tank with the large filler cap on top of tank . You need to make a small outrigger for the front support of the tank , They give you 10gallon a side . The other option if you have a truck cab or 3 door is standard tank and use series filler and body moulding , its a straight fit but a bit tricky to cut hole . On the nearside if you fit tank you need to cut and extend hose . HTSH
