Started to fill my td5 at sainsburys yesterday and the pump cut out straight away, I assumed it was just a sensitive nozzle, so repositioned it and filled a bit slower. Then I noticed diesel pouring out from under the car. I had a quick look and it looks like the breather pipe where it connects next to filler is split. So I carried on and filled it to the brim with no more leaks. But later on when I parked on the drive at home I noticed a drip of diesel coming from side of the tank on both sides of the car. It looks like its coming from the top of the tank then running down the sides. Any ideas?

Fuel sender/pump seal away, lift back carpet out, remove access panel and have a look - that would cause it to leak when full, or every time the fuel sloshes past it forcing some out.

If your breather is split then it is most likely going to be the cause.

might be worth checking the union on the green pipe where it meets the pump on the top of the tank. This is the pipe that sends fuel to the engine. it often rubs through and leaks!! cheap and quick to fix but you do need a new pipe and gaffer tape it to protect for the future.

Undo pipe at tank and then look on the offside inboard chassis rail to disconect it there. About 18 inches long with two bends in it. Easy fix for a dull problem.
